At 2pm on Saturday 29th September, Dave and I picked up our puppy "Hugo" from the breeder.
We rang the door bell and Don answered the door...we went straight out to the backyard to find 4 little frenchies running around. He picked up Hugo and gave him to Dave to cuddle - Hugo was making little grunting noises to Dave which made him laugh.
We went back inside to sign the papers and hand over the money for him...all the while Hugo incredibly shy and timid - not doing much but just wanting to snuggle in the dark places in my arms...I ended up putting him on the floor to have a better look at him...he went straight over to Dave's feet and rested his head ontop of them. A complete and utter sook!
We thanked Don and Allyson for all their help in making my wish come true..and waved goodbye...Hugo, now asleep in my arms.
I had a bath mat in the car so I wrapped my legs incase there were going to be any accidents and Hugo laid in the gab of my legs with his sweet little face pointing towards me. The whole way home, with phone calls on Dave's mobile coming in every 5 minutes he still remained sound asleep and snooring.
We went straight up to Dave's parents place to introduce them to their new fury grandson. Maria answered the door and Hugo woke up. We put him on the kitchen floor - not convinced to come to us when we called him..but happy to head straight to the laundry and peek around the door to sneak a peek at us.
We picked him up and carried him into the living area where I laid on the floor and cuddled him...he licked my face and made grunting noises again and tried snuggling into my armpit. After the introduction to the Guerrera household we headed back to our 'home sweet home' where the nursery was waiting.
We placed him in the pen to see what he would do ....and he slept for a couple of hours. When he eventually woke up he played very shyly with his 'Barnie Beaver' Squeek toy and looked at us trying to work out who we were and if we were nice people. Dave and I got on the floor trying to convince him to come to us...but he would walk in the other direction. It was very disheartening at first.
Mum and Dad came over around 5pm and met Hugo - he was a sleep and snoring again. Not much of an introduction but enough for them to call him a 'good dog'. haha
We put in him the pen in the attic and sat in the lounge...what a ride we were about to adventure on that evening!
Hugo started his first crying session at midnight...so I moved the pen into the living area and decided to sleep on the lounge to be closer to him. He cried again at 1.45am - i reassured him and put him back to bed...2.45am cried louder so I put him on my chest and he fell asleep - being exhausted at this stage I wanted to try and get some sleep too which was impossible sleeping on my back so I moved him to the pen again...he woke up again at 3.45am, 4.45am and 5.45am.
At 6.00pm I'd had enough so I got Dave from his slumbers and told him to 'SWAP'!
The first night was rough - but it actually formed a very tight bond between Hugo and I. A complete turn around from the day before - he was now completely dependant on me. He was following me around like a shadow and cried if I wasn't in the room. Dave and I were up for some pretty big learning curves!
